The Waverley is situated on Whitby's famous West Cliff and is thus very conveniently positioned for the Promenade, beach, harbour and shops. Children over the age of 5 years are welcome and enjoy specially reduced rates if sharing a room with parents. Unfortunately, due to the quiet nature of the hotel, pets and children under the age of five are not allowed to stay at The Waveley. In 1824 the premises were sold and opened as the Crown Hotel and remained a hotel until the mid-fifties when it was taken over by the Whitby Working Men's Club. After almost fifty years due to the club becoming unprofitable the property was purchased by the Punch Pub Company in 2002 and 2million refurbishment was undertaken restoring it back to its former glory.
